In Barcelona and looking for paella? We know in recent decades paella has degraded and often become rather ‘meh’. But delicious paella can be found in the historic city of Barcelona.
Here are the addresses we have tried and approved.
The paella is probably the most famous Spanish dish in the world. Of Valencian origin, its name comes directly from the large pan in which it is prepared. Traditional paella and its variants The traditional recipe for paella consists of rice and poultry. The barcelona paella prefers seafood. The restaurants specializing in paellas often offer different variants of this dish. The most common are seafood paella and mixed (meat and seafood). Vegetarian paella (vegetables substitute for meat or seafood) is beginning to emerge in the menus of some restaurants.
✔ In Barcelona and its surroundings, you can also enjoy delicious local specialties: arroç caldoso (rice in its juice) arroç negre (black rice based on cuttlefish ink) or fideuà (a kind of paella where the rice is replaced by Of vermicelli). These dishes are more often appreciated by Barcelonans than the paella itself. Do not hesitate to taste them!
When to eat paella?
Indeed, it is a dish based on rice which has the reputation of being somewhat difficult to digest. For this reason, the Barcelonians do not eat paella in the evening! They consume rather than lunch.
Thursday is tacitly declared paella day in Barcelona. On this day, many restaurants offer it in their lunch menu and its price becomes very interesting.
Where to eat a good paella in Barcelona?

Restaurant 7 doors: the most authentic
7 doors is an emblematic restaurant in Barcelona. Inaugurated in 1836, it has already regaled the greatest. The decor is old and authentic. The prices are a bit higher than average but the setting and quality of the food are worth it.
✔ Each place has a plaque where a famous person has eaten. You will be able to sit where Che Guevarra, Picasso or Placido Domingo have posed their illustrious posteriors.

Restaurant Xiringuito Escribà : the most specialized
You will see paellas in all the restaurants for tourists. These often display a map in several languages and use pullers to attract the customer.
The Escribà are very famous in the world of gastronomy in Barcelona. They possess the magnificent Escribà patisserie of the Ramblas. The desserts you will eat in the Xiringuito Escribà, one of the most popular seafood restaurants of the Catalans, come from there.
The word “xiringuito” describes beach huts that can be enjoyed and eaten from April to September.
If the Xiringuito Escribà is facing the sea, it is however a real restaurant that works year-round: you lose a bit of proximity to the sea, but you gain in infrastructure and comfort. The kitchens are open on the room, so we can see the preparation of paellas live. And it puts the water in the mouth!
